Our Beliefs

Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)

We are a Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) whose faith is grounded in Jesus: His life, teachings, ministry, death, return to life, and ascension to heaven with God.  Jesus is the foundation of all of the hope we have, for He showed us not only how to live a good life, but more importantly He enabled us to do so by saving us from a life of sin through His sacrifice for us.  Through His grace for us, as seen most clearly when He died for us on the cross, we were given new life as we were raised to live with him, and born again with Him into God’s family.  He has enabled us to live a life free from the power of sin and free to serve and love as Christ has loved us.

God Is Love

We believe that God is love, and because of this, love is the foundation of what God asks of His family.  We are called to love the Lord with our whole being.  We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves.  We are called to love our siblings in the Church as Christ loves us.  To truly love however it also requires letting go: letting go of our selfish desires and plans, and letting go of the sin that has a grip on our lives.  Because of this, we believe acknowledging our own sinfulness and our need of Christ’s saving Grace is an essential part of becoming and being His people.  Believing this, our church makes space regularly to confess our sins to God, knowing that Christ has already proved Himself more powerful than our sin through His defeat of sin in His resurrection from the grave, and also knowing that as we make our confessions, the Holy Spirit is at work in us to make us ever more loving and holy as Christ is.

God Gives Us Many Gifts

To guide us in our new life in God’s family, God gives us many gifts.  He gives us His word, the Bible, which was inspired by God and written by humans throughout centuries to lead and guide God’s people back to Him, and which God still uses today to lead us back to Him.  God’s word is trustworthy, and the guide for all of our teaching, preaching, and living.  God gives us the Holy Spirit, who is God’s presence with us and works to comfort and guide us.  God gives us the Church, our family of faith, and each member has special gifts used to support and build up the community as a whole, and support the ministry and mission of the Church as a whole.  God calls us to worship, a time where we either together or apart can push aside the activities and stresses of our world to focus our minds and hearts on our Creator and Provider and receive from the Lord whatever blessing God has for us that day.  Many are the gifts God gifts His children.

Invite and Welcome All

We believe that God invites and desires all people into his family, so therefore we invite and welcome all people into our church without prerequisite.  Ultimately what God wants is for unity and right relationships to return between all people, and the Church as God’s co-workers in the world are at work towards this aim.  We celebrate and look forward to the day when Jesus’ promised return to this earth will be realized, and His reign as king made permanent, and all people and things will be right again.  Until then, we do our best to serve here in this community as His faithful servants, working with Christ in His mission of love and renewal here on Earth.
